An Open Letter from God

By Arvind Khetia (a Leader in the Hindu Community of Kansas City) The universal law of karma states that all actions, including our thoughts, have corresponding results. Therefore, life's problems are the result of one's past actions. The root causes of life's problems affecting our inner peace are greed, jealousy, fear, selfishness and so on. To promote good thoughts and actions and restore inner peace, one should live a life of righteousness guided by moral and spiritual values. Religion, in its true spiritual sense, is the means to achieve the primary goal of human life, which is God realization. If religion is to solve life's problems, it should be interpreted in its true spiritual sense only. This requires the disciplined implementation of its fundamental tenets such as truth, love and harmony among people of different faiths. When religion is exclusive and interpreted in the limiting sense of doctrine and dogma, it leads to fanaticism and intolerance of other faiths and has been a cause of much pain to humanity. In spite of the abundance of religious fervor all around, one sees a multitude of problems as well. Swami Vivekananda, reflecting on the teachings of Vedanta, has stated that, "when we come to the spiritual, universal concept of religion, then and then alone, will religion become real and living; it will come into our very nature, live in our every movement, penetrate every pore of our society and be infinitely more a power for good than it has been before." Remember, when one has an unwavering faith in God, one sees even life's problems as blessings from God, a true sign of a spiritual life indeed.
